AREA PROFILE: FREIGHT AROUND BUXTON. A look at the busy freight only line to Buxton via Peak Forest and Tunstead with Class 37s, 47s & 60s hard at work on the heavy stone trains. Additionally we take a look at traffic on the freight only branch line to Hindley.

CLASS 47s ON PASSENGER HAULAGE. A study during the period 1987 to 1991 in action throughout the network on passenger haulage & comprising 47s on Cardiff to Crewe trains, 47s during 1987 on the Southampton to Bristol cross country services, the Trans Pennine services, Aberdeen Push-Pull services, Kings Lynn line, 47s on the Southern. Plus 47s during the summer on the Waterloo to Exeter and Paddington line.

EAST COAST MAIN LINE - PAST & PRESENT: A study of the ECML during both diesel & electric eras with Class 40s, 33s, 47s, ‘Deltics’ & 26s plus the prototype HST & even a ‘Hastings’ unit in 1970! In contrast Class 91s & HSTs are shown at work in 1991.

DIVERTED TRAINS ALONGTHE MIDLAND MAIN LINE. The rare spectacle of Class 47s hauling West Coast Electrics over the Midland route into St Pancras. The trains are shown on both electrified and non-electricfired sections of the MML.

NORTH LONDON FREIGHT. A look at the freight traffic on the important North London line, which provides a link between the Eastern Midland & Western regions. Classes include 31s, 33s, 37s, 47s, 56s, 59s and 60s.

THE CROMER BRANCH. The archetypal Great Eastern Branch line. Semaphore signals, gated crossings and first generation DMUs make up this fascinating section.

ARCHIVE FEATURE: THE DELTICS. To mark the 10th anniversay (in 1992) of the withdrawal from service of the last class 55 ‘Deltics’. We use archive film to look back at happier times. The class is seen at work on the East Coast main Line during the 1960s & 70s. Sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of an era now but a distant memory.

CLASS 158s UNDER THE SEMAPHORES. The Highland Main Line has changed little over the years is still controlled by semaphore signals (in 1992). However, the motive power on the line has changed and today the high-tech class 158s provide the traction.
