During the 1960s the railtour became an integral part of steam operation. As the steam era drew to its close throughout the UK, the interest, extent and scope of the railtour increased steadily and at the same time attracted widespead publicity.
Using high quality 16mm colour film taken by Kenneth Oldham MBE this production looks at classic railtours of the period against the backdrop of working steam.

Classic Performers 1963: 60022 Mallard, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, 60114 W P Allen, Lydham Manor, Hinton Manor, plus 4472 Flying Scotsman on the Great Central.

LNER Pacifics Tour in 1964:

The Tour of September 1964 with Duchess and A4 Haulage along the West Coast Main Line.
To The North East:
A variety of specials are featured alongside steam worked freight on the East Coast Main Line in 1964, including rare film of 35007s run to York. Plus film of Standard 5s through central Wales, Jubilees in the Noth West, On The Waverley route with an A2 & A4, 60019 Bittern at Derby, An A1 on the Settle & Carlisle, The Whitby Moors Railtour, 78046 and veteran performers in Scotland in 1965, East Coast steam with A3s & A4s, 70015 Apollo in the North West and 0-4-0 Pug on the mainline.
