 MARKET HARBOROUGH TO SHEFFIELD

In the early 1970s the Midland Main Line had changed little since the days of steam. It retained semaphore signalling and signalboxes and had seen little in the way of modernisation or rationalisation.

Join us for the final part of our ride along the Midland and completing the journey to Sheffield. On the way we journey past the junctions at Syston to Leicester with its diesel depot.

We then continue north to Trent Junction where we take the line to Derby. From Derby with its works, yards and junctions we contine north past Ambergate to Chesterfield, finally reaching Sheffield, a station still signalled by semaphores.

On this journey we compare past and present to provide a remarkable portrait of a steam age railway worked by diesel traction.
